- <p> DIED. DON DRYSDALE, 56, Hall of Fame baseball pitcher; from
- a heart attack; in Montreal, Canada. During his 14 major league
- seasons with the Dodgers, in both their Brooklyn and Los Angeles
- incarnations, "Big D" and his fastball terrorized opponents
- for more than strictly competitive reasons--he set a 20th
- century National League record by hitting 154 batters. Drysdale
- played in five World Series, and in 1968 pitched 58 scoreless
- innings, a record that stood for two decades.
